Realized I was day trading on the wrong platform for 2 years

I started trading stocks in 2022 using this broker my buddy recommended. Thought I was doing fine, made like $800 in profit over 18 months. Then last month I signed up for a different platform to check their options chain and noticed their fees were literally 70% lower per trade. Looked back at my old broker's fee schedule and realized they were charging me $4.99 per trade plus a hidden $0.65 per contract fee. I was losing like $40 a month just on fees without even knowing it. Has anyone else found a hidden fee structure that killed their returns?

The same thing happened to me with my phone plan a few years back. I was paying $85 a month for a plan I'd had since 2016, then I saw an ad for a prepaid carrier that gave me the same data for $35. It's like these companies bet on you never checking your statements. A buddy of mine calls it the loyalty tax, where sticking with something too long ends up costing you more. You just gotta treat every monthly bill like it's up for renegotiation, especially subscriptions and broker fees. That $40 a month in hidden fees adds up to $480 a year man, that's real money.

This is just how the system works in so many areas now, not just phone plans. Car insurance, internet packages, even your gym membership all rely on you not paying attention for a year or two. It feels like the real skill these days is just remembering to check every bill at least once a year.
