Question about how I picked brokers in 2019 vs now
Back in 2019 I opened an account with a guy because his office had free donuts and a fish tank, and now I won't sign anything until I check 2 years of complaints on FINRA. What is your weirdest dealbreaker when picking a broker?
Did your buddy ever tell you about the guy who lost him money? Mine had a rule where if the office coffee was bad he walked. Not even joking. He went to one place, took two sips, said nope, and drove to the next guy across town. I gave him a hard time about it for months but then his pick ended up doing fine while mine tanked. Now I'm not saying coffee is the whole deal but I get it a little more.
My mom's neighbor Dave talked me into a guy in 2021 because his office was above a bakery and Dave swore the smell of fresh bread meant good vibes. I actually went with someone else after I called the bakery and found out the broker had moved out six months earlier. Dave still brings up the bread thing at every BBQ, but my picks did better than his that year so he finally dropped it.
