Just realized my old broker's fee dispute took nearly a year to settle

Back in 2018, I was closing on a house in Austin and my broker charged a fee that wasn't in our original agreement. It was only $450, but I pushed back because it felt wrong. The back and forth with their billing department, then a manager, then finally a formal review board, just dragged on and on. Has anyone else had a small fee turn into a year-long headache with their brokerage?

Ugh, ABSOLUTELY! My old firm did that over a $200 "admin fee" and it took forever just to get them to admit it was a mistake.

elliot_allen65 says they bank on you giving up but honestly $450 over a year of your time? That's like a dollar a day. I had a similar thing with my broker in 2019 over a $300 late fee I thought was wrong. I just paid it and moved on because my time is worth more than dealing with that stress. Sometimes it's not a scam tactic, it's just a business being slow and you gotta pick your battles.

Why do they make it so hard? They bank on you giving up over a small amount. It's a scummy tactic that works way too often.
