Heard a guy at the diner say his broker's 'free' trades actually cost him more in the long run.

He was arguing that the higher spreads on a no-commission platform ate up his small, frequent gains, which makes me wonder if a flat fee per trade is actually cheaper for active traders.

Honestly, my cousin messed up his taxes pretty bad too and it just meant a late fee. How hard of a lesson are we talking? Sometimes people make it sound way worse than it really is.

Oh jeez, "just a late fee" is like saying a toothache is "just a little pain." I mean sure, if you're lucky it's just a slap on the wrist, but the IRS can get real creative with those "oops" charges if they feel spicy.
