Changed my mind about those zero commission brokers after a $2,300 surprise fee elsewhere
I spent two years swearing that zero commission brokers were hiding costs in the spread. Turns out the traditional firm I used charged a $75 closing fee plus a $450 admin fee when I moved accounts, and the zero commission one just processed it all in one afternoon. What finally convinced me was pulling both statements side by side for the same trade size. The zero commission outfit actually came out cheaper by $230 over 6 months. Has anyone else seen hidden charges pop up after switching?
