Catching a detail in broker reviews got my transfer done smoothly
I was moving my old 401k to a new account and dreading the usual hassle. While reading through broker reviews here, I kept seeing mentions of how some firms handle paperwork for you (which sounded too good to be true). I went with one that had several people saying the reps walked them through each step. Sure enough, when I called, the guy on the phone filled out most of the forms himself and emailed them to sign. The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes instead of the days I expected. It's a small thing, but not stressing over mail and faxes felt like a real win. (I'm usually the one who messes up that kind of stuff.) Now I tell friends to peek at reviews for those little nuggets that make life easier.

Last year I moved two old 401ks to a new account. I only looked at brokers with reviews saying they handled the transfer calls. It cut the process down to one quick phone call each time.

Always figured that paperwork nightmare was just part of the deal. But reading @the_barbara's tip about checking for brokers who handle the transfer calls is honestly genius. Might have to try that next time.
