Why I now mix mortar by hand for small jobs

Always used a mixer for everything. Thought hand mixing was too slow. Did a repair last month where power was out. Hand mixing gave me better control over the consistency. Now I do it for patches and fixes.

Still feels like wasting time to me though.

Yeah but that's the whole thing, @the_derek. It's not just about the time spent right then. It's about the feeling you're left with after. If you finish and it felt pointless, that's the real waste. Means you could have been doing literally anything else and gotten more out of it.
