Wasted $150 on a mortar mixer attachment that just made a mess

Bought one of those drill-powered paddle mixers for a small retaining wall job, figured it'd save my arms. First batch of mortar I tried, it flung chunks everywhere and left dry powder at the bottom of the bucket. Anyone else had better luck with a specific brand or is it back to the hoe and wheelbarrow?

Wait were you using the paddle backwards or something? I've seen guys flip them around and it just makes a tornado in the bucket.

Nah @lucas63, flipping it works fine for me, you just gotta go slower lol.
