Used a string line on one wall and eyeballed the next, and the string line humbled me
Last Saturday I was laying a garden wall for a lady in Modesto and got lazy on the second run, just sighting down the block edges instead of setting up my line again. By the time I got 12 courses up, that wall had a bow in it you could see from the street, while the first wall sat dead straight. I had to pull about 30 blocks back off and relay the whole thing, which ate my whole Sunday. The string line takes two extra minutes to set and saves you a whole day of rework, that is the trade in a nutshell. What is your go to for keeping long runs straight when you are working alone?
30 blocks is a painful way to learn that lesson. When you set that line on a long run by yourself, do you pin it at both ends or just the corners and let it sag in the middle?
