The apprentice who asked if the wall was level after I finished it
Last summer I was building a garden wall in Brighton and took on a young lad for the day. Around 3pm he watched me butter the last brick, tap it down, and wipe the mortar. He stepped back and said, "So is it actually level, or do you just hope for the best?" I handed him the spirit level and told him to check every course from the bottom up. He spent 20 minutes doing it while I had a brew. Found the top course was out by 2mm, so we fixed it together. Has anyone else had an apprentice say something that made you laugh more than it annoyed you?
