Question about buttering both ends of a brick - waste or good practice?
I was taught to only butter one end but a guy on the last job said both ends stops water getting in later. Which way do you guys do it on cavity walls and have you seen issues with either method over time?

Man that's a good point about stopping water getting in, I've always buttered both ends because it just feels more solid even if it takes a little longer.

Hold up, are you ever worried that buttering both ends might actually make it harder to get a good seal if you push too much compound out? I've seen guys do that and end up with more squeeze out than they wanted, then you're fighting to clean it up before it dries. Not saying you're wrong, just wondering if you've run into that issue where all that extra goop actually works against you.
