PSA: Saw a brick archway on a new apartment building downtown and the mortar joints look way too thin, maybe 3/8 inch. Is that a new style or a problem?

Disagree with max963, thin joints can mean they skimped on the mortar and that's a real worry.

Look at how they build things now, it's all different. Thin joints are pretty normal on new brickwork, they use stronger mortar. Unless the bricks are loose or the wall is leaning, it's probably fine. People get worried about every little thing but most of the time it's just how things are done these days.
