My uncle said to use a 3/8 inch joint for a garden wall and I should have listened

He told me to stick with a 3/8 inch joint for the whole thing, but I figured a 1/2 inch would be fine and go faster. Halfway through the build in my backyard, the wall started to look wavy and the mortar was drying too fast in the sun. I had to tear down two courses and start over with his advice. Has anyone else had a joint size mess up a simple job like that?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with a brick patio! That smaller joint really does lock everything in tight and keeps it from shifting. I learned the hard way too, but it turned out way better once I switched.

Wait you used brick too? That stuff is way heavier than pavers, how did you even move it all by yourself? My back hurts just thinking about it.

You ever try stacking them in a wheelbarrow with a buddy? I did half a pallet at a time, took breaks, and my back still let me know about it the next day.
