Mortar mix went bad mid-wall, spotted it after 5 courses in Toledo

Grab a fresh bag from the back of the pallet at the yard, the front ones sit in weather and the Portland can clump up. I had to bust out 4 feet of face brick last Thursday because the stuff wouldn't set right, anyone else check bag dates before loading up?

Bag dates are a myth anyway. That mix took too long to wet out cause you dumped it in dry and walked off. Portland stores fine for years if the pallet ain't sitting in a puddle. I've used bags from the bottom of a stack that sat through three winters. No clumps, no problems. Your 4 feet of face brick probably failed cause you didn't mix it long enough or the ground was froze underneath. Store your mud inside the trailer like the rest of us and stop blaming the yard.
