Keeping a wet sponge handy while laying in Phoenix heat
I was on a job site in Phoenix two summers back, laying block in 108 degree heat, and my mortar kept setting up faster than I could work it. The foreman came over and told me to keep a bucket of water and a sponge nearby, then just wipe the bed joint right before I set my block. It sounds simple, but wiping that joint adds a tiny bit of moisture back so the block slides and seats with barely any tapping. Has anyone else tried this trick in dry heat, or do you just add more water to the mix instead?
