Just realized I'd been buttering my brick joints way too thick for 6 years
Was laying a garden wall in Tulsa back in May when a guy named Ray from the supply yard walked by and asked why my mortar was oozing out everywhere. I told him that's how I was taught, and he grabbed a trowel and showed me a joint about half the thickness I'd been doing. Turns out all those walls I built were holding fine but wasting a ton of mix and looking sloppy up close. Anyone else get shown up by a stranger and have to rethink their whole setup?
