Hot take: I switched from a 10 inch trowel to a 12 inch for a big foundation job in Phoenix and the speed difference was huge.
The bigger trowel let me lay down more mortar per scoop, so I was moving faster with fewer refills. It was a game changer for those long, straight runs. Anyone else find a specific tool size that really upped their pace?

Honestly, I always stuck with a 10 inch thinking it was easier to handle. Tried a 12 on a slab last month and it totally proved me wrong. That extra width makes a huge difference on big flat sections, doesn't it?

Yeah that "extra width" thing is real. I used to think bigger meant slower, but on a long wall or ceiling it's the opposite. You cover ground so much faster with a 12. Less passes, less fatigue. It just glides over those big open spots.

Totally agree with you on the "extra width" thing, @thomasm41. I was a die-hard 10 inch guy until I finally gave a 12 a real shot. Once you get used to the weight it's hard to go back on anything flat.
