Can we talk about the trowel I left in a bucket of water overnight in Amarillo

Left my finishing trowel soaking in a bucket on a job in Amarillo last Thursday so the mortar wouldn't set up on it. Came back Friday morning and the handle had swelled up so bad it split the ferrule off, whole thing was useless. Tried to dry it out with a heat gun and it just curled up worse. Any of you soak your trowels or do you just scrub them dry every night?
