Appreciation post: the $22 brick tongs that fixed my back after 15 years of carrying one at a time
I picked up a pair of brick tongs at a supply house in Cleveland for $22, mostly because my lower back was killing me after a long wall run. I figured they were a gimmick, but I carried 6 bricks at a time instead of 2 and finished the job a whole day early. The first hour felt awkward, like learning to walk again, and my grip was shot by lunch. Now I want to know what other cheap tool changed your day on the scaffold, because I clearly missed a few.
Cheap tools that save your body are everywhere once you start looking. The $5 foam kneeling pad, the $12 magnetic wristband, the $3 pack of good earplugs. Everybody wants the fancy upgrade but the real win is the small dumb thing that stops the ache. Same deal with the brick tongs. Nothing special about them, they just move the load off your back and into your hands. Whole trades are full of guys wrecking themselves to save twenty bucks. Wild when you think about it.
