A foreman in Omaha told me to skip the weep holes on a brick veneer job to save time.

We were doing a big house project last fall and he said the flashing would be enough. I pushed back, but he said he'd done it for years with no callbacks. Has anyone else had a boss try to cut corners like that on a structural detail?

That Omaha foreman and @rowanjenkins's boss are why we have building codes.

Oh man, that's wild. I had a boss tell me to just use regular drywall in a bathroom once, said the fan would handle the moisture. I knew it was wrong, but he insisted. A year later, the homeowner called him screaming about mold and peeling paint. That kind of shortcut always comes back to bite you, even if it takes a while.

It's not just about callbacks, it's about the next guy. Some poor soul will own that house in twenty years and have no idea why the bricks are spalling. That hidden damage becomes their expensive mystery to solve.
