Wasted $60 on a self watering pot that drowned my pothos in 2 weeks
I picked up one of those fancy self watering ceramic pots at a garden shop in Boise last month because I travel for work and my plants get thirsty. The thing sat on my windowsill and the soil stayed SOAKED, and by day 12 my pothos leaves went yellow and mushy at the base. I pulled the plant out and the roots were brown and soft, total rot. Now I just water everything by hand before trips and skip the gadgets, has anyone found a self watering setup that does not turn into a swamp?
Is $60 really a big loss though? Sounds like the pot did what pots do, which is hold water. Maybe the fix is just less water in the thing or a cheap moisture meter instead of a whole new rig. Skip the gadgets if hand watering works for you.
