The kudzu patch off Highway 11 near Walhalla is swallowing 3 acres of native plants and nobody seems worried
I drove out there two weekends ago to look at some wild ginger I'd spotted back in spring and the patch has grown at least 20 feet past where it was. It's crawling over a stand of mayapple and hepatica that I've been watching for a while, and the vines are already starting to climb the oaks. What got me is the county put up a new trail sign right at the edge of it, like nobody even noticed the green wall behind them. Kudzu can grow a foot a day in summer, so waiting until fall to deal with it means losing another chunk of that slope. I took some photos and marked GPS points but I don't know who to even call about it. Has anyone dealt with a county extension office on invasive removal, and did they actually do anything or just send a pamphlet?
