Saw a cactus bloom at night for the first time

I was checking on my San Pedro cactus around 10 PM last night and noticed the buds were open. I looked it up and found out some cacti only bloom after dark to attract specific moths. The article said a flower might only last one night before it closes up for good. Has anyone else had a plant do something on its own weird schedule like that?

Got a night blooming cereus for that exact reason. The thing is a lump of sticks 364 days a year, then one random summer night it puts out these huge, crazy smelling flowers that are gone by morning. Makes the whole wait worth it.

Can't get behind that logic. A plant that's ugly most of the time feels like a bad deal. Why put up with a lump of sticks for a whole year just for one night? My plants need to look nice more often than not. That single payoff doesn't seem worth the effort.
