Overheard a neighbor say houseplants are just 'dirt in a pot' and it got me thinking

I was watering my ficus last Tuesday when my neighbor walked by and laughed, calling my plants 'just dirt in a pot.' It made me realize how many people don't see the life in a houseplant. I spent over $60 this month on soil mixes and pots just to keep my pothos happy. Does anyone else get frustrated when folks dismiss the work we put into keeping plants healthy?

Yeah but dirt in a pot is still alive if you actually care for it...
