My uncle told me at a BBQ in Dayton that my houseplants are just 'slow dying flowers' and I keep thinking about it
He's a crop farmer, 30 years of corn and soybeans, and he said it while poking at my peace lily like it owed him money. His point was that I keep buying plants for how they look on day one instead of asking what they need in my actual apartment, which gets maybe 2 hours of real light. Now I'm staring at my pothos wondering how many of them I picked wrong. Do you all buy for your light or do you just buy what looks good and hope?
Did your uncle have a point though? My friend did the exact same thing, bought a fiddle leaf fig because it looked pretty and it was dead in six weeks. She finally started picking plants by which window they'd sit in and stuff actually lives now.
