My peace lily drooped for two weeks before I realized the pot had no drainage holes

Bought a nice ceramic pot from a garage sale for five bucks, transferred my plant last month, and only noticed the solid bottom when I pulled the dead root ball out and saw the layer of swampy water sitting there like a science experiment. Anybody else ever kill a plant just by being too cheap to check the hardware?

Nah, you're blaming the pot when really you just weren't paying attention. Plants droop for a week minimum before they die, so you had plenty of time to notice the water sitting there. Plus, plenty of people grow pothos and snake plants in cups with no holes for months and they're fine. You just gotta water less and know what you're doing. The pot wasn't the problem, the owner was.

Pothos and snake plants are tough but even they can rot if the soil stays wet too long, so not everyone gets lucky with no drainage. @henry_hernandez is right that you gotta adjust your watering, but a pot with no holes is still asking for trouble if you’re not super careful about it.
