My grow light timer broke right before the seedlings sprouted
I set up my seed trays for tomatoes two weeks ago and plugged the grow light into a basic timer from the hardware store. The timer just stopped working on Tuesday night, so the seedlings got no light for a full 12 hours. I had to run an extension cord from the kitchen and manually turn the lamp on and off for a day until I could get a new one. Has anyone else had a cheap timer fail like that, and what brand did you switch to?

Ever think about skipping the timer completely? I just run my lights on the same schedule as the room they're in. Wake up, turn the kitchen light on, seedlings get light. Go to bed, turn it off. It's one less thing to buy and one less thing that can break. I've had way more issues with timers than I've ever had with just remembering to flip a switch.

My lights have been on the same timer for 3 years without a single problem. I got a cheap one at the hardware store for like 8 bucks. @emma_hayes80 I think you're overcomplicating it. If my timer breaks, I'm out 8 dollars and maybe a few hours of messed up light schedule. That's not really a big deal compared to the risk of forgetting your seedlings need 16 hours of light and you're out of town for the weekend. Not everything has to be some serious life or death thing.
