Moisture meters are a crutch for people who can't be bothered to learn their plants' actual needs (and if you're sticking a probe in the dirt you're disturbing the roots anyway). My fiddle leaf fig has thrived for years on nothing but a chopstick and my pinky finger.

Man those little gadgets really do make a difference. I've noticed the same thing with my own plants - once I started using a simple soil probe everything got way easier. People think you need some green thumb or magic touch but half the time it's just knowing when to water and when to back off. A $40 tool beats guessing and killing a $100 plant any day.
