I finally admitted that plant influencers actually know stuff

For like a year I rolled my eyes at those Instagram plant people with their fancy light meters and humidity gauges. Thought it was all just for show. Then my monstera started getting brown edges no matter what I did. I caved and bought a $20 moisture probe on Amazon and found out I was watering way too often. Now I check every pot before I water and my plants actually look happy. Has anyone else had that moment where they realized the basics were actually the problem?

Dove right in and bought myself a cheap moisture meter last month after killing two calatheas back to back. Turns out I was a chronic overwaterer too, thought I was being a good plant parent but I was basically drowning them. That little gadget saved my sanity and my remaining plants honestly feel like I finally understand what theyve been trying to tell me this whole time.

and honestly the stick trick is good but I still say the meter is worth it for the peace of mind, especially if you're like me and get a wild hair to water every three days. what helped me even more was learning that most plants actually WANT to dry out way more than I thought, like they enjoy that little drink after a dry spell. I check my meter at two different depths now, shallow for the topsoil and deeper for the root zone, and it's insane how often the top is bone dry while the bottom is still swampy. also don't be afraid to ditch the plastic pots for terracotta on your fussier plants, it's like a built in fail-safe for overwaterers.
