Heard a guy at the plant nursery say he talks to his ferns every morning

I was picking up some potting soil at Green Thumb Nursery in Sacramento last weekend and this older guy was telling the clerk he has a routine of chatting with his Boston ferns over coffee. He said he's been doing it for about 5 years and swears they grow fuller. I always thought that was just a silly myth, but his story was so specific it made me wonder. Has anyone here tried something similar with their plants and noticed a real difference, or is it just good care habits making them thrive?

My neighbor in Davis swears by talking to her tomatoes. She gets a bigger yield than anyone on our block, and she's not doing anything special with fertilizer. It makes you wonder if there's something to the old stories.
