Appreciation post: My little carnivorous plant setup saved my sanity during a rough week in Phoenix
I know the popular thing is to say carnivorous plants are too fussy and not worth the trouble, but I have to disagree. Two weeks ago my AC died in the middle of a Phoenix heat wave, and I was stuck at home with no cool air and a ton of stress. My little windowsill setup of three Venus flytraps and a pitcher plant became the only thing that made me smile. I spent maybe 20 minutes a day checking their soil moisture and making sure they got distilled water, and that small routine kept me from just sitting around feeling miserable. I even caught a housefly with a pair of tweezers and fed it to my biggest trap, which snapped shut in about half a second. Some folks in my local plant group said I was wasting my time, that carnivores are just a gimmick, but honestly they thrived while my other houseplants looked sad. Has anyone else had a plant keep them going through a bad week?
