50 houseplants in one room: organized collection or chaotic disaster?

I hit exactly 50 houseplants in my living room last week and it made me wonder - am I a serious collector or just someone who can't say no at the garden center? My philodendron brasil alone covers half a wall, but my African violets are crammed on one shelf. On one hand, diversity keeps things interesting and I've learned so much about different care needs. On the other, maybe focusing on 10 or 15 favorites would give each plant better light and attention. What number makes a collection feel like a hoard versus a hobby to you all?

50 houseplants is way too many for one room, honestly. That's not a collection, that's a fire hazard plus a pest outbreak waiting to happen. The philodendron brasil taking over half a wall sounds like you're letting plants run your space instead of you controlling them. African violets crammed on one shelf proves my point - they're literally suffocating each other for light and airflow. A real hobby means curating, not just accumulating everything you see. You'd probably enjoy your top 10 plants way more if you gave them actual room to thrive instead of turning your living room into a jungle.

You said "turning your living room into a jungle" but what if that's literally the look they're going for?
