Rushed display swap left a hole in our window for 2 days

On Tuesday our shop had two options for the front window: keep the cozy winter reading theme or switch to a Valentine's romance display. I picked the romance swap because the holiday was 9 days out, but I underestimated how many books needed to be pulled from the floor. Halfway through, the risers didn't fit the new layout and we had to empty the whole window out. Two days of bare glass made people think we were closing, so has anyone else hit a timing disaster with a seasonal switch?
