PSA: I blew $45 on a used decorating book at a Portland shop because of the window display
Last month I walked past this cute place on Alberta St and the window had a whole Halloween scene built out of old paperbacks, so I went in and bought the exact book from the display for $45. Turns out the shop had glued all the pages together and painted the cover for the display, so I paid full price for a brick that I can't even open. Does anyone else check if the display copy is actually readable before buying it?
Man, I was the total opposite for years, I'd just grab the display copy every time because I figured if it's out front it must be fine. Then I paid eight bucks for a cookbook at a flea market and got home and every single page was stuck together with rubber cement. Now I open and flip through the actual copy before I hand over any cash, even if it means asking the person working there to pull one from the back. You live and you learn, sorry your brick cost forty five instead of eight.
