That famous sci-fi novel I kept hearing about - just couldn't make it past page 50

I tried reading Neuromancer by William Gibson about three months ago. Everyone online calls it a classic and says it basically invented the cyberpunk genre. I picked up a used copy from the library sale for a dollar. The writing style was just too dense for me. I felt like I needed a dictionary every other sentence and I kept losing track of who was talking. I got about 50 pages in and put it down. It felt more like work than reading for fun. Has anyone else run into a supposedly great book that just didn't click with you because of the writing style?

Actually I used to think I was just "not smart enough" for dense books like that, but reading your post changed my mind. If a book feels like work and you're not enjoying it, that's a real problem with how it's written not with you. Life's too short to force yourself through something that just doesn't click.

Yeah did you try reading it out loud? I find that helps sometimes.
