Started a 900 page Civil War book in a deer blind in Michigan, quit it 20 pages later
My buddy let me use his hunting stand near Grayling last November and I brought The Killer Angels thinking I would finally knock out a chunk of it since I am 300 pages behind on my reading goal. Turns out reading about Pickett's Charge while freezing at 6am, unable to feel my toes, is a special kind of torture. I made it maybe 20 pages before I started reading the same sentence four times and gave up. His thermos of gas station coffee was better company than that book, and I said so out loud like a crazy person. Dropped it back at the library in January without a shred of guilt. Anybody else quit a "classic" because the setting you picked for it was just wrong?
