Someone told me my fantasy novel had too many adverbs and now I cannot unsee them in every book I pick up
After a writing group critique where a guy named Dave circled 47 ly words in my first three pages, I started a popular epic fantasy series and quit after 200 pages because the author used suddenly six times in one fight scene, has anyone else had a specific piece of feedback ruin reading for you?

Dave absolutely wrecked reading for me with his dumb adverb list too.

Ngl I don't get why people act like one teacher's list ruined reading forever. Dave told me not to use adverbs too and yeah it was annoying, but I just ignored it and wrote how I wanted. If a list of words you can't use actually stopped you from reading or writing, that's more on you than on Dave. Like how do you let a high school English teacher's opinion live rent free in your head for years?
