Just realized a book club member's comment made me a better cook

I was in this book club about 6 months ago and we were reading a popular memoir about a chef. I mentioned that the recipe sections felt boring and the member said "you're missing the point, it's about the feeling not the instructions." That stuck with me. Next time I made my grandma's meatloaf recipe, I stopped worrying about exact measurements and focused more on how the mixture felt in my hands. It actually came out better than ever before. Now I read cookbooks differently, I pay attention to the stories instead of skipping ahead. Has anyone else had a piece of book feedback that changed how you approach a hobby?

Read somewhere that muscle memory beats measuring cups every time.

Exactly. I used to be all about measuring cups for baking. Spent months following recipes to the gram. Then one day I just started eyeballing it. Now my hands know how much flour to grab without thinking. Way faster, less cleanup, and honestly my cookies come out better.
