I finally stopped pushing through books that bored me after one harsh review

I used to force myself to finish every book I started, even if I hated it. Then a friend told me my reading list was 'painfully predictable' and that I was wasting time on books that didn't challenge me. That comment stung but made me realize she was right. Now I give a book 50 pages, and if it doesn't hook me, I drop it without guilt. Has anyone else had a friend's honest feedback change how they read?

Wait, a friend actually told you your reading list was painfully predictable? That's brutal, I have to admit. I can't imagine someone I know saying that to me, my friends don't get that direct about my hobbies. But I get the logic, 50 pages is generous compared to my rule. I give a book about 10 pages and if the writing style or plot doesn't grab me right away, I'm done. Better to move on than waste hours on something that feels like a chore.

10 pages is brutal @patricia_rodriguez but honestly respect for not wasting time.
