I finally gave up on the same book 3 times, then finished it in 4 days at a campground in Estes Park
I quit Moby Dick twice in college and once on audio in 2019, always bailing around the same whale anatomy chapter. Last week I was stuck in a tent during rain in Estes Park with nothing else to read, and I got through the whole thing by just reading it out loud to my dog. Does anyone else find that a boring setting is what finally gets them through a book they kept quitting?
Wait, you read the whole thing out loud to your dog? That is a lot of hours of talking. Moby Dick takes like 24 hours on audio, so doing that with your voice is wild. My throat would be shot after one night. Also the fact that it was a whale anatomy chapter that kept getting you is funny. That part is famously a slog. Maybe the dog was the real reason it worked, not the boring tent. Having someone, even a dog, listen makes you slow down and pay attention.
