Hit page 300 and just couldn't keep going with that fantasy doorstop
I got through 300 pages of some epic fantasy series last month before I realized I didn't care about any of the seven kingdoms or their dumb prophecies lol. Has anyone else hit a specific page count where you just snap and put the book down forever?

Is it bad that I can usually predict exactly which page I'll give up on a fantasy series? I swear my brain has a built-in timer that goes off around the 250 mark and I'm just done. I once made it to page 350 of a huge book and realized I'd forgotten the name of the main character twice already. That's usually my sign to admit defeat and go find something with less maps and more actual plot. It's like my attention span has a hard limit, and no amount of world-building is gonna push it past that point. I think I'd rather read a cereal box than another chapter about a lost kingdom sometimes.

Two hundred fifty pages is barely scratching the surface in a genre built on slow burns and layered reveals. Those first few chapters are basically the prologue where the author is still setting up the dominoes, and the real payoff usually kicks in around page 400 or later. If you bail at 250, you're missing the entire point of why fantasy exists, which is to let the world sink in until you can't remember the real one.
