Finally gave up on that famous self help book after page 50
I bought "The Power of Now" after a friend swore it would fix my anxiety, but the whole "live in the present" thing felt like it was written by someone who never had to deal with a screaming toddler and a leaking roof at the same time. Gave up halfway through chapter 3 when I realized Eckhart Tolle probably never had to bartend a Friday night rush with a hangover. Anybody else find those guru type books just totally miss the mark for real life chaos?

Girl YES. Those books are written by people who clearly haven't had to deal with real life. I actually threw a different guru book across the room once when it told me to "just choose happiness" while my car was being repo'd. Like cool, thanks, I'll just flip a switch and ignore my anxiety and my bills at the same time. They make it sound so simple but they've never had to work a double shift while their kid is home sick. It's all this detached wisdom from someone who probably meditates in a quiet room for three hours a day. Honestly I think those books work best for people who already have their life together enough to actually focus on the message.
