Can we talk about hitting 50 abandoned books and finally admitting it's not them, it's me?
I started a little log about 3 years ago, back in 2021. Just a notebook where I wrote down the title and page I gave up on, mostly to feel less dumb about it. Forgot about it for a while. Found it in a moving box over the weekend and counted it out of boredom. 50 books. Fifty. Half of them I quit before page 80.
The weird part is it used to bother me. I'd push through stuff I hated just so I could say I finished it, like some kind of reading homework. That changed somewhere around book 30 or so. Now I'll give something 50 pages and if I'm not into it I just put it down and grab something else. Feels lighter.
Any of you keep a list like this? And does the number surprise you or is it just me?
