Appreciation post: The biography that lost me at page 200

I was reading a bio about a famous musician, about 200 pages in, sitting in a coffee shop in Nashville. The author spent 15 pages describing the color of a rug in a recording studio. I realized I didn't care about the rug, I wanted to know why the album was made. I closed the book, left it on the table, and walked out. Has anyone else hit a random detail wall like that where you just know you're done?

...and then I read a biography about a country singer where the author spent a whole chapter on what kind of whiskey the guy drank in 1987. I mean, okay, whiskey's fine, but I wanted to know why he dropped out of touring for three years. I flipped ahead to see if there was any payoff, but nope. Just more whiskey descriptions and a story about a tour bus tire. Closed that book in a Walmart parking lot. Put it by the trash can on my way out.

Bet I've done that with a whole stack of self-help books too.
