The Lincoln Memorial hit me harder at 6am than any novel ever did
I went to DC last month and got there before sunrise to beat the crowds. Standing alone on those steps with the Reflecting Pool stretching out, I finally understood what ALL the war memorials and speeches were actually about. Seeing the words carved into that stone after reading so many books about that era made me tear up without a single page in my hand. Has anyone else had a place hit them harder than a book?
