Hit you like a truck"? It's a decent story but come on. It's a book about a mouse and a dude who gets smart then gets dumb again. Did you just finish your first novel ever or something?

Did you ever notice how people do the same thing with music? You'll hear someone say a song "changed their life" and it's just a basic pop tune with the same four chords. I think some folks just haven't read or heard enough to know the difference between good and great. It's like when someone's only ever eaten fast food then freaks out over a frozen pizza. Not saying the book is bad, but maybe pump the brakes a little on the dramatic reactions.
