The 5 hours I lost to a single book in Madison, and why I still can't decide if it was worth it
Last Tuesday I sat in a coffee shop on State Street in Madison and read the last 60 pages of a novel in one go, and when I looked up it was dark outside and my coffee had been cold for 3 hours. I missed a call from my sister and a work meeting, and I did not even care. But now I keep going back and forth on whether a book that ruins your whole day is a gift or a curse, since part of me thinks a good story should not leave you useless for 5 hours while another part thinks that is the entire point. So which side are you on, do you want books that wreck you or books you can walk away from clean?
