That moment in 'The Road' when the father dies still haunts me
I used to think post-apocalyptic books were just about survival and action. But after reading Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road', I realized they can be about love and sacrifice too. The scene where the father dies in the woods, leaving his son alone, changed how I see parenthood. Has anyone else had a book flip your understanding of a whole genre?

That one scene made me rethink what a survival story can actually be.

Honestly that scene really flipped the script on what survival looks like. Usually it's all about fighting nature or other people, but here it was more about fighting your own mind and the memories you can't escape. The way they showed survival through just waiting and enduring, not actively doing anything heroic, felt way more real to me. Tbh it made me think about how sometimes just staying alive when everything in you wants to give up is the hardest fight of all.
