That $50 self-help book I bought on impulse actually saved my marriage
I was at a thrift store in Phoenix last spring and picked up this dusty paperback for fifty cents. It was some old self-help book from the 90s about communication. I figured it would be junk but I was bored. Read the whole thing in one night. It had this one part about how couples stop saying what they really mean because they're scared of conflict. That hit me hard. I started using the little exercises with my wife. Six months later we talk better than we ever did. Has anyone else found gold in a random cheap book you almost didn't buy?

Picked up a beat-up relationship book at a garage sale for a quarter and it changed how I talk to my mom lol.

That's awesome samf95, it's wild how the cheapest stuff hits the hardest. I grabbed a beat up copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People at a library sale for a dime once, thought it was gonna be some boring old business book. But I read a chapter about actually listening to people instead of just waiting for your turn to talk, and it totally changed how I argue with my brother. We used to go at it over stupid stuff like whose turn it was to take the trash out, now we just laugh about it. Did you throw the book out after or do you still keep it around?
