Talked to my mom about a book we both read 10 years ago and it hit completely different now

I was visiting my parents last weekend and my mom pulled out a copy of "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy off the shelf. Said she was thinking about it after seeing something on the news. We both read it back in 2014 and thought it was dark but good. This time though she asked me if I remembered the part where the dad is just trying to keep his kid going even when everything is gone. I said yeah and she just looked at me and said "that part hits different when you have your own kid now." I don't have kids but I got what she meant. Made me wonder how many other books I'd see totally different if I read them again now that I'm older. Has anyone else gone back to a book after 5 or 10 years and had a totally different reaction?

Depends how deep you're trying to go with it.
